About this piece

A show flat is the model unit a developer dresses to sell a home; this one is a real flat, for its owners to dress. It is built from their own 3D model: every wall, window and door is where the model puts it, in metres. The flat’s windows face 210°, south-south-west, measured from the estate’s site plan. The sun moves as it does over Singapore on the date and at the clock time you choose.

Try

• Drag to orbit, scroll or pinch to zoom. The buttons at the bottom left turn the view and switch to a plan from above.
• Click a floor or wall, or a room’s name, then pick a finish. Tiles and planks are drawn at their real size.
• Add furniture, drag it into place, and turn it. A red outline means it overlaps a wall or another piece.
• Happy with a piece’s place? Tick Locked (or press L), or use Lock all. A locked piece can still be selected and recoloured, but it can’t be dragged, nudged, turned, resized or removed; dragging on it orbits the view instead. While a copy of one of your own pieces is locked, Edit won’t change that piece’s shape or size. Empty this room and Empty the flat leave locked pieces where they are; Reset furniture starts over with everything unlocked.
• A piece from a shop shows a Product page link that opens the shop’s page in a new tab. Pieces you add yourself can keep a shop link too.
• Shopping? Under Furniture, “Add your own” takes a name, a simple shape, the width, depth and height from the shop’s listing, and a colour. You can take the colour from a photo by tapping the fabric (the photo stays on your device), and edit a piece later if the sizes change. Your pieces are kept in this browser.
• Under Finishes, Doors closes every door or hides them all. Open is how the owner’s model draws them; closing one shows the floor it sweeps, which furniture needs to leave clear.
• Move the time through an afternoon in December, then in June. In December the sun is on the window side from mid-morning and reaches deep into the rooms; in June it gets round to the windows only after about four in the afternoon.

Simplified

• Only this flat and the ceiling slab above it cast shadows. Neighbouring blocks, trees, corridors and the units around it are left out, so real rooms will often be shadier.
• Light bouncing around the room is stood in for by a soft even fill, not computed. Ceiling lights cast no shadows and their light can spill a little through walls. Their brightness and the fill are tuned by eye.
• Furniture sizes other than the beds and the Nido sofa are typical sizes, not measurements. Set your own with the sliders, or add your own pieces at their real sizes.
• Bed frames add 5 cm on each side of the mattress and a 6 cm headboard: an estimate.
• A closed door is the model’s open door turned on its hinge until it fills its opening; which side the hinge is on comes from the model. The bathroom doors are bifolds. The front gate and the narrow panel beside the front door stay shut.
• The facing is read from a site plan about 50 pixels across the block, so it may be a few degrees out.
